Description

Project Astra is a research prototype from Google DeepMind exploring the capabilities needed for a universal AI assistant that can understand and respond to the world in real time. Built on Gemini models, it processes text, voice, images, and live video to answer questions and complete tasks, drawing on Google apps like Search, Maps, and Lens. It is currently available only to selected testers on Android phones and prototype glasses, and its features are being folded into products such as Gemini Live.

Tincan lets a group of people bring their own personal AI assistants into one shared chat room, so friends can plan things and get AI help in the same conversation instead of separately in private DMs. Each person keeps their own AI persona and context, but everyone in the room sees the same thread, similar to a group chat that includes each member's assistant as a participant. The free tier allows 250 messages a day, enough for casual use, while paid tiers (Party Line and Switchboard) raise the daily cap for heavier group use, and usage overage is billed per 1,000 messages and per GB of storage for groups that exceed their plan.
