How to Use ConvertKit
Email marketing for creators
ConvertKit (now branded Kit) is an email marketing platform built for creators, organized around subscribers, tags, and automations rather than static mailing lists.
Step 1: Build your subscriber list
Add subscribers manually, import a CSV, or collect them through a form or landing page — all subscribers land in one pool rather than separate per-list databases.
Step 2: Create a form or landing page
ConvertKit's visual editor builds an opt-in form or a full standalone landing page that you can embed on your site or link to directly.
Step 3: Tag and segment subscribers
Instead of managing separate lists, ConvertKit applies tags (like "bought-course") to subscribers based on what they do — one subscriber can carry many tags at once, and segments are just filters over those tags.
Step 4: Build a visual automation
The Automations builder is a flowchart: a trigger (e.g. "subscribes to this form") leads to actions (add a tag, wait, send an email) with conditional branches based on subscriber behavior.
Step 5: Send a broadcast
For a one-off email to your whole list or a specific segment, use a Broadcast — separate from the ongoing automations that run continuously in the background.
Where it bites
Pricing scales with total subscriber count, so a large pile of stale, unengaged subscribers directly increases your bill every month. Pruning your list matters more here than on platforms with flat pricing.
